Java^TM^ Software Installation

The only prerequisite for running the CDF Skeleton Editor as a Java^TM^ Web Start application is the Java  Standard Edition version 1.4.2 or higher.  If you already have Java SE 1.4.2 or higher installed, there is no need to install anything else.  If you cannot install or upgrade to at least Java SE 1.4.2, you may still be able to run the editor as a traditional Java application (see the instructions below).

Notes:\

  1. Later versions (updates) (e.g., Solaris 9 9/04) may have included newer versions of Java SE.
  2. It’s possible, although rare, that the computer’s manufacture (e.g., Dell, HP, etc.) installed a newer version of Java SE.\

Users who need to install or upgrade Java SE, should follow these procedures:\

Step 1: Install JavaTM  Standard Edition (SE)

Install Java Java SE version 1.4.2 or higher.  Only the JRE option is required.\

Step 1a: If necessary, configure your browser for Java^TM^ Web Start

Refer to the instructions included with Java, your browsers instructions, or these instructions for configuring Mozilla and derivative browsers (e.g., Netscape^TM^ 6/7) to utilize Java^TM^ Web Start.
