Noble Planetarium Invites Sun Worshippers To Celebrate Sun-Ear5th Day 2005
The Noble Planetarium at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History will celebrate all things having to do with the sun during Sun-Earth Day 2005. March 19, 2005, marks this year's annual event, a national celebration of the sun, the space around the Earth, and the importance of both to life on our planet. The Noble Planetarium will recognize the day with a special planetarium program and a variety of outdoor demonstrations:

  • The Great Sun-Earth Connection, a live 25-minute program which provides a closer look at the sun and the Earth's relationship to it, will be presented every 30 minutes from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Noble Planetarium. Cost is $3.50 per person.
  • Visitors can safely look at the real thing through the planetarium's specially made telescopes fitted with solar filters during Safe Solar Viewing. Staff will also be baking cookies using solar ovens. The free solar viewing and solar cooking demonstrations are from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the Museum's east parking lot.
  • The North Texas Renewable Energy Group will be on hand to discuss sun-based alternative energy through demonstrations and equipment. The group's appearance will coincide with the outside solar demonstrations.

We will have a special "solar noon at the sundial" from 12- 12:40 pm (webcast live at http://earthcam.com/usa/texas/houston/museum/) and then in the Grand Hall we will have the Chichen Itza webcast on a big screen! (with solar activities and the showing of our new planetarium show "Earth's Wild Ride" in between)
