Dr. Dieter Bilitza to be awarded 2013 International Kristian Birkeland medal.
This award is given by the Norwegian Academy of Sciences for outstanding scientific results related to Space Weather and Space Climate. It will be presented in conjunction with the 10th European Space Weather Week in Antwerp, Belgium the week of Nov. 18 - 22, 2013. Dr. Bilitza, a space physicist at George Mason University and also affiliated with the NASA Space Physics Data Facility at Goddard Space Flight Facility, will receive the medal for work on the Internationall Reference Ionosphere (IRI) model.
