README: Common Data Format (CDF) X-windows Image Tool (CXIT) ============================================================ The CDF X-window Image Tool (CXIT) program display and map images using data in the Common Data Format (CDF). Data in geographic and magnetic coordinates can be mapped to the Earth using orthographic, azimuthal, or Mollweide projections, with overlays of a coordinate grid, ground stations, and user-selected points. Values at selected points can be extracted. CXIT has been used to examine auroral images from the DE-1 Spin-scan Auroral Imager (SAI), and for global change studies. These programs were developed for NASA Goddard Space Flight Center by Gyorgy Fekete. The C source code for the X-window program may be obtained by anonymous FTP to ncgl.gsfc.nasa.gov in the pub/cxit directory with the filename of cxit.tar.Z. The latest CDF utilities should also be transferred from the pub/cdf directory. X11 R4 or R5 libraries are also required. The following command will extract the files into the current directory: % zcat cxit.tar.Z | tar vxf - The enclosed file, README_FIRST, explains how to make the CXIT executable. The tar file will expand to about 1.6 Mbytes and a successful "make cxit" will grow to about 4.3 Mbytes. The unstripped executable "cxit" with all -g is 1.4M bytes and the stripped "cxit" is just under 1 Mbytes. The tar file includes "CxitGuide.ps.Z", the documentation as a compressed PostScript file. This program has been tested only on a SPARCstation 330 with an X11R4 server, and a Silicon Graphics Indigo running IRIX 4.0.5F For questions and comments, contact (electronic mail preferred): Gyorgy (George) Fekete (301) 286-3751 NASA/GSFC Code 632 gyuri@ncgl.gsfc.nasa.gov Greenbelt, MD 20771 USA NCF::GYURI ======================================================= PS: A Macintosh version of this progam (CDF Macintosh Image Tool or CMIT) is in progress.
