The first Year 2000 problem has been identified in the COHO data base! The Voyager 1 and 2 trajectory data files in VOYAGER1/TRAJ/SSC and VOYAGER2/... incorrectly have 365 days (vs. 366) in year 2000, because day 60 was assigned to both Feb. 29 and March 1. This problem will be corrected shortly and does not occur elsewhere in COHO to our knowledge. 1/15/98 JFC BULLETIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Six-hour average cosmic ray data from the Cosmic Ray (CRS) experiment on the Voyager 1 and 2 spacecraft have now been updated for 1994-1996. 3/20/97 JFC BULLETIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The MIT Plasma Group has provided reprocessed and updated solar wind data (hourly averages in ASCII format with SEDR ephemeris data also included) for 1977-1980 (Voyager 1) and 1977-1995 (Voyager 2). These data were obtained from their anonymous FTP site at space.mit.edu (cd /pub/plasma) and are also available via the World Wide Web. Look under cosmic/heliospheric physics on the Space Physics Data System at http://spds.nasa.gov/ for a link to their site. JFC/01-28-94 BULLETIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Although many users need heliographic spacecraft coordinates with latitudes calculated with respect to the solar equator, some may not want Carrington longitudes which are in a system fixed to the rotating Sun. Inertial longitudes are defined with respect to the ascending node of the solar equator on the Ecliptic; this node was at solar ecliptic longitude +74.367 degrees as of 1 Jan. 1900 at 1200 UT and its longitude increases by 1.4 degrees per century due to precession of the equinoxes in the solar ecliptic system. Heliographic inertial longitudes have been added to the trajectory data files in COHO for all missions except Helios 1/2 and Pioneer Venus Orbiter; these latter missions will be done later. JFC/11-16-93 BULLETIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The format files for the Voyager 1 and 2 magnetometer data have been revised to clarify the definition of the latitude and longitude vector angles in spacecraft-centered heliographic coordinates, otherwise known as RTN. See VOYAGER1/MAG/HOUR/VY1MAG_1H_FMT.txt and VOYAGER2/... for details. JFC/03-07-93 BULLETIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Many new datasets have been recently loaded into COHO. These include heliocentric coordinates from the [ACTIVE.HELIO]HELICOOR and PLANET programs for Galileo/Cruise & Jupiter, ICE, IMP-8/Earth, PVO/Venus, Ulysses, and Voyager 1/2. The first energetic particle data have been loaded into COHO and were taken from newly archived data (submitted by Bruce Randall) of the University of Iowa Geiger-Mueller Tube (GTT) experiment on Pioneer 10. The Voyager 2 plasma experiment data have been revised and updated through 1990, based on a provisional data submission by John Belcher of MIT. Bon Appetit! J. F. Cooper 12/8/92A BULLETIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Voyager 1/2 plasma experiment P.I., Prof. J. Belcher of MIT, advises that recent analysis of the data finds instances of undersampling in low density regions associated with high speed solar wind streams, particularly in Voyager 2 data after 1989. All the Voyager 1 and 2 data are currently being reviewed and the NSSDC archived datasets will be updated in the near future. Until then, the Voyager plasma data should be used cautiously, particularly in regard to analysis of solar cycle effects, and it would be advisable to contact Prof. Belcher before publication of any analysis using data currently in COHO or in the NSSDC tape archive. See the *_FMT.txt files in VOYAGER1/PLASMA/HOUR or VOYAGER2/... for his direct statement. J. F. Cooper 8/31/92 BULLETIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Voyager 2 solar wind plasma parameters for 1977/233 to 1985/365 can now be found. {These data were later superceded in 1995}. J. F. Cooper 05/28/92
