File: VY2MAG_DIR.txt Version: NSSDC 11/25/2008 JFC ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This directory contains interplanetary magnetic field data from the Voyager 2 Triaxial Fluxgate Magnetometer (MAG) experiment, which is briefly described in the file VY2MAG_NMC.txt extracted from the NSSDC Master Catalog. The directories ip_48S_ascii and ip_1hour_ascii respectively include 48-second and hourly averaged ASCII data in heliographic coordinates for 1977 - 1989. Higher resolution (1.9 - 9.6 sec) summary data in VMS binary format are provided in directory ip_sum_vmsbin for the same time period. Since this is a non-VMS site, please note that special procedures are needed to read the VMS binary files by using the file attribute information provided separately for each binary file. Contact NSSDC for further information on these procedures. A separate directory ip_48s_TS_ascii includes event data at 48-sec resolution from the 2007 crossing of the solar wind termination shock. Related Information and Data: Further details on the spacecraft, experiment, data sets at NSSDC, and related WWW sites can be found on the Voyager 1/2 flight project page under http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/space/ Hour averages of the interplanetary solar wind data from, and hourly heliocentric coordinates of, Voyager 1/2 and other interplanetary spacecraft may be also be accessed and plotted on-line through the COHOWeb service based at the same WWW site as above. Acknowledgement: Use of these data in publications should be accompanied at minimum by acknowledgements of the National Space Science Data Center and the responsible Principal Investigator defined in the experiment documentation provided here.
