aareadme.txt The Vega mission to Venus and to Comet Halley was implemented by the USSR with international particiption. Two spacecraft, Vega 1 and Vega 2, were launched on December 15 and 21, 1984. They encountered Venus during June, 1985, where each deployed a descent module and a set of balloon-borne atmospheric sensors. The main spacecraft encountered Comet Halley March 6 and 9, 1986. Significant data were obtained during both the encounter and cruise phases of the mission. More details on the mission are available from the NSSDC Master Catalog at http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/nmc/sc-query.html This directory contains magnetic field, plasma and energetic particle data obtained from the cruise phase of the mission for both spacecraft.
