BULLETIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This Pioneer Venus update file has been extracted from the old aaupdate.doc file at the VMS anonymous FTP site for all COHO-related datasets. Directory names for current Pioneer Venus data sets have been changed for new locations at this new site. Note that all directory and file names at this site are actually in lower case, even though they are given below in upper case. 2/24/99 JFC BULLETIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The complete ASCII data set for Pioneer Venus Orbiter data has been retrieved from the same Ames group site into PIONEER_VENUS/PLASMA/HOUR and covers 1978 to 1992. This data set includes documentation, hour average solar wind parameters, and spacecraft orbital ephemeris data. 12/20/95 JFC BULLETIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NSSDC has received from the Planetary Data System a description in SFDU format of Pioneer Venus Orbiter Plasma Analyzer (OPA) data which will shortly be brought on-line by the PDS-PPI node and which will later be sent to NSSDC on CD-ROM's. The data include high-resolution and hourly average measurements for 1978 - 1992. The hourly average interplanetary data will be posted in COHO after receipt by NSSDC. The PVO/OPA SFDU file is at [coho.sfdu]opa_pvo_final.sfd {old location} and was submitted to PDS by P. Gazis of NASA Ames Research Center. JFC/09-19-94 BULLETIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Although many users need heliographic spacecraft coordinates with latitudes calculated with respect to the solar equator, some may not want Carrington longitudes which are in a system fixed to the rotating Sun. Inertial longitudes are defined with respect to the ascending node of the solar equator on the Ecliptic; this node was at solar ecliptic longitude +74.367 degrees as of 1 Jan. 1900 at 1200 UT and its longitude increases by 1.4 degrees per century due to precession of the equinoxes in the solar ecliptic system. JFC/11-16-93 BULLETIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Solar wind plasma data from Pioneer Venus Orbiter for 1978-1992 are now in directory PIONEER_VENUS/PLASMA. J. F. Cooper 12/23/92 BULLETIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Many new datasets have been recently loaded into COHO. These include heliocentric coordinates from the [ACTIVE.HELIO]HELICOOR and PLANET programs for Galileo/Cruise & Jupiter, ICE, IMP-8/Earth, PVO/Venus, Ulysses, and Voyager 1/2. The first energetic particle data have been loaded into COHO and were taken from newly archived data (submitted by Bruce Randall) of the University of Iowa Geiger-Mueller Tube (GTT) experiment on Pioneer 10. More data are coming by early 1993 from the Pioneer 10 and 11 GTT experiments, Pioneer Venus Orbiter plasma experiment, and other cosmic ray experiments on Pioneer 10 and 11. J. F. Cooper 12/8/92A BULLETIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Telemetry with Pioneer Venus Orbiter was lost today. See PIONEER_VENUS/ PVO_EOM.TXT for the NASA PAO announcement. J. F. Cooper 10/8/92 BULLETIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Venus has been added to program ANON_DIR:[ACTIVE.HELIO]PLANET which lists solar ecliptic and heliographic coordinates of several planets. This program can be executed remotely and writes output into the file planet.rp in the user's local root directory. J. F. Cooper 10/7/92 BULLETIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Pioneer Venus Orbiter (Pioneer 12) IMF data are now available for 1979-1988 in PIONEER_VENUS/MAG. Magnetic field vectors and spacecraft position are provided in Venus Solar Observer (VSO) coordinates, which are Venus-centered and aligned with the orbital plane of Venus. Data are provided only when PVO was in the interplanetary solar wind upstream of the ionospheric bow shock. See PVOMAG_FMT.txt for further details. J. F. Cooper 06/17/92 BULLETIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PVO interplanetary IMF data for 1979-1988 have recently been acquired from UCLA and are now being processed for ingest into COHO. More recent PVO data for Oct 1990 to Dec 1991 has just been published as daily average tables in Solar-Geophysical Data prompt reports, April, 1992, No. 572, Part I. J. F. Cooper 05/28/92
