File: P11PLA_DIR.txt Version: NSSDC 11/15/2001 JFC ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Directory Descriptions VERSION23 Version 2.3 of the Pioneer 10 Plasma Analyzer Data Archive at NSSDC is a reprocessed version of older data in the NSSDC archive. In subdirectory VERSION23 the document files (*.sfdu) are given in Standard Formatted Data Unit (SFDU) format and include the data set overview (VOLDESC_PIOPLA.sfdu), the formats of the four separate data types (FORMATSM.sfdu - high resolution summary, FORMATHR.sfdu - hourly averages, FORMATAT.sfdu - spacecraft attitude, data files (*.DAT) for each datatype, and FORTRAN files (PIOPLASM.sfdu, PIOPLAHR.sfdu, PIOPLAAT.sfdu, and PIOPLATR.sfdu) to read each binary file and output selected parameters in ASCII format. The VMS binary data files are accessible from NSSDC's VMS FTP site at anonymous@nssdca.gsfc.nasa.gov in directory [COHO.PIONEER_10.PLASMA.VERSION23] for coverage through 1992. FORTRAN source codes to produce ASCII listings of selected parameters are provided here. Selected information on the Pioneer 11 Plasma Analyzer experiment from the NSSDC Master Catalog is given in file P11PLA_NMC.txt in the current directory. HOUR Hourly average Pioneer 11 plasma data in ASCII format has been retrieved from the Pioneer Plasma Group Web site at NASA Ames into subdirectory HOUR. This is the same Version 2.3 data as documented in binary form in subdirectory VERSION23. SPECTRA Documentation, software, and sample files for the off-line (CD) data set (NSSDC ID 73-019A-13L) of high resolution spectral samples for interplanetary solar wind measurements. The NSSDC Master Catalog entry for this data set is in file P11PLA_SPECTRA_NMC.txt. Related Information and Data: Further details on the spacecraft, experiment, data sets at NSSDC, and related WWW sites can be found on the Pioneer 10/11 flight project page under http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/space/ Hour averages of the interplanetary solar wind data from, and hourly heliocentric coordinates of, Pioneer 10/11 and other interplanetary spacecraft may be also be accessed and plotted on-line through the COHOWeb service based at the same WWW site as above.
