File: aareadme.txt Version: NSSDC 03/10/2010 JHK ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Pioneer 11 Geiger Tube Telescope (GTT) Data Experiment: Pioneer 11 Geiger Tube Telescope (GTT) Experiment Principal Investigator: Prof. James A. Van Allen Dept. of Physics and Astronomy University of Iowa Iowa City, IA Description: This directory includes data from the Pioneer 11 Geiger Tube Telescope (GTT) experiment. There are three information files and four data directories at this time: aareadme.txt: This file aavoldesc.sfd: U.Iowa-generated, SFDU-formatted documentation file with some specificity to 15 min binary data but with much information relevant to all GTT data. aoverview.txt Discussion of relations among the multiple GTT data sets of this directory. ip_15min_ascii: Contains 15-min cruise-phase and 3 Dec 1974 and 1 Sep 1979 planetary encounter count rates and related parameters as provided to NSSDC in binary and converted by SPDF to ASCII. ip_1hour_ascii: Contains hourly-averaged count rates derived by NSSDC from a subset of the rates of the full GTT 15-minute averaged cruise-phase and 3 Dec 1974 and 1 Sep 1979 planetary encounter data, in ASCII ip_1day_ascii: Contains 1-day-averaged cruise-phase and 3 Dec 1974 and 1 Sep 1979 planetary encounter count rates and related parameters as provided to NSSDC in binary and converted by SPDF to ASCII. Related Information and Data: In addition to the documentation files identified above, details on the spacecraft, experiment, data sets at NSSDC, and related WWW sites can be found on NSSDC's Pioneer 11 flight project page under http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/nmc/spacecraftDisplay.do?id=1973-019A Likewise, NSSDC's description of the GTT experiment can be found at: http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/nmc/experimentDisplay.do?id=1973-019A-11 Hourly averages of the interplanetary solar wind data from Pioneer 11 as well as hourly heliocentric coordinates of it and other interplanetary spacecraft may be also be accessed and plotted on-line through the COHOWeb service at: http://cohoweb.gsfc.nasa.gov/ Acknowledgement: Use of these data in publications should be accompanied at minimum by acknowledgements of the National Space Science Data Center, the Space Physics Data Facility and the responsible Principal Investigator defined in the experiment documentation provided here.
