File: P10TRJ_DIR.txt Version: 02/26/2002 JFC ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pioneer 10 Heliocentric & Planetocentric Coordinates This directory includes four subdirectories holding Pioneer 10 spacecraft ephemeris data from the Pioneer Project at NASA Ames Research Center and NSSDC's Satellite Situation Center (SSC): MISSION Main archival data set from NASA ARC for the Pioneer 10 mission, including interplanetary cruise and Jupiter encounter intervals. Data are provided in Standard Formatted Data Unit (SFDU) package with ASCII data files accompanied by data set and file format description files (*.sfdu). Sample FORTRAN read routines are supplied to extract selected parameters into ASCII output files. Time intervals of data records vary from daily during cruise to minutes during encounter. See the *_FMT.txt file in that directory for further details. IP_PROJECT Data set consisting of daily intervals of spacecraft solar ecliptic and heliographic coordinates extracted from the data files in directory MISSION. See the *_FMT.txt file for format description. IP_SSC NSSDC-provided data set consisting of daily intervals of spacecraft solar ecliptic and heliographic coordinates calculated from orbital prediction software at Goddard Space Flight Center by NSSDC's Satellite Situation Center staff. These are the same data used for Pioneer spacecraft coordinates in the COHOWeb on-line service (see below). See *_FMT.txt file for format description. JUPITER Pioneer spacecraft solar ecliptic and Jupiter System III planeticentric coordinates extracted into ASCII file from the MISSION data set for the Dec. 1973 encounter with Jupiter. Variable time intervals decreasing towards closets approach to the planet. See the *_FMT.txt file for format description. LIGHTTIME One-way time delay at daily intervals for radio signal to travel between the Earth and Pioneer 10. See pioneer10/mag/ip_15min_ascii directory for further documentation. Related Information and Data: Further details on the spacecraft, experiment, data sets at NSSDC, and related WWW sites can be found on the Pioneer 10/11 flight project page under http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/space/ Hour averages of the interplanetary solar wind data from, and hourly heliocentric coordinates of, Pioneer 10/11 and other interplanetary spacecraft may be also be accessed and plotted on-line through the COHOWeb service based at the same WWW site as above.
