File: P10CRT6H_FMT.txt Version: NSSDC 11/15/2001 JFC -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pioneer 10 Cosmic Ray Telescope Six-Hour Average Interplanetary Counting Rates and Fluxes Data Set Dates: 1972-03-03 to 1994-12-31 NSSDC Data Set ID: 72-012A-12C Data Set Contact: Dr. Nand Lal Code 672 NASA Goddard Space Flight Center Greenbelt, MD 20771 Internet: nand.lal@nasa.gov Phone: 301-286-7350 Experiment: Pioneer 10 Cosmic Ray Telescope (CRT) Principal Investigator: Prof. Frank B. McDonald Institute for Physical Science and Technology University of Maryland, College Park, MD ********* Material between the *******'s was added in 2008 by Joe King. The 6-hour averages were originally provided by the PI team in 6-month files having no end of record marks after each 6-hour record. These files were originally in this directory. These files were ingested by NSSDC's DIOnAS process to produce the 6-month files in the subdirectory https://spdf.gsfc.nasa.gov/pub/data/pioneer/pioneer10/particle/ crt/ip_6hour_ascii/data/ These latter files have been verified by Nand Lal to have the same data values as the input data, and they have end-or-record markers, but the end-of-record markers are not uniform. A yet later version of the data set having annual files and uniform end-of-record markers (i.e., LF) was created in 2008. These files have replaced the original PI-provided 6-month files originally in this directory. The documentation files at P10CRT_VOLDESC.sfdu and P10CRT_FORMAT.sfdu, originally created to support the PI-provided version, have been updated to reflect the new annual files. ********** Description: see P10CRT_VOLDESC.sfdu and P10CRT_FORMAT.sfdu files in this directory for comprehensive data set, format, and experiment documentation in SFDU (Standard Formatted Data Unit) format. Data file extensions have been changed here to *.ascii Related Information and Data: Further details on the spacecraft, experiment, data sets at NSSDC, and related WWW sites can be found on the Pioneer 10/11 flight project page under http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/nmc/spacecraftDisplay.do?id=1972-012A Hour averages of the interplanetary solar wind data from, and hourly heliocentric coordinates of, Pioneer 10/11 and other interplanetary spacecraft may be also be accessed and plotted on-line through the COHOWeb service based at the same WWW site as above.
