Software for Interactive Ionogram Tracing and Inversion Program This directory contains the software files related to an interactive widget-based program to trace and invert ISIS ionograms (in CDF format). This program requires IDL and an X terminal (X-windows, MACX, Sun). After transferring the program files (using ftp) from this directory a user needs to compile the Fortran file jackson4_idl.f f77 -o jackson4_idl jackson4_idl.f (or f90, f95) f77 -o worldmap worldmap.f and then run the widget program in IDL IDL>@comp IDL>isisgui For information on how to proceed with the tracing and inversion the user should double-click the HELP button (the text can also be viewed and printed from this directory: file ISIS_HELP.HLP). ISIS ionogram data can be obtained in binary from from https://nssdcftp.gsfc.nasa.gov and in CDF format from http://cdaweb.gsfc.nasa.gov. They should then be loaded into the directory where the tracing program resides (or into a subdirectory of this directory). A search page at http://spdf.gsfc.nasa.gov/isis/isis_menu4.html lets users locate data for specified dates, times and other search criteria (currently only for ISIS-2 data). The homepage for the ISIS sounder data restoration project is at http://spdf.gsfc.nasa.gov/isis/isis-status.html. Please acknowledge the NASA Space Physics Data Facility and the instrument's Principal Investigator for data usage.
