00readme.txt
These 1-min. plasma data are a subset of data at the MIT website:
ftp://space.mit.edu/pub/plasma/imp/fine_res/. The MIT-resident
data include moments-based and fits-based parameters, for both
solar wind and magnetosheath orbit phases.
(NSSDC provides these data as annual files at
https://spdf.gsfc.nasa.gov/pub/data/imp/imp8/plasma_mit/sw_msheath_min/.
(They are accessible from MIT but in shorter files.)
The fits-based, solar wind-only data were reformatted at NSSDC, reorganized into
annual files and placed at the nssdc site:
https://spdf.gsfc.nasa.gov/pub/data/imp/imp8/plasma_mit/solarwind_min/
These data are nominally all from the solar wind phases of the IMP orbit.
The day number convention used is January 1 = day 1.
Thermal speed is the most probable thermal speed (i.e., the
square root of [2kT/m(proton)]).
The flow azimuth (E/W) angle is positive for flow from west of the sun.
The flow elevation (N/S) angle is positive for flow from south of the
sun. The aberration in velocity due to Earth's motion around the Sun
has been removed. Flow cartesian components may be directly computed
from these angles and the flow speed.
