This directory contains annual ASCII files of 320ms magnetic 
field data from the IMP8 magnetometer, spanning the period 
November, 1973, to June, 2000.  The data records contain 
time tags, magnetic field Cartesian components in GSE 
coordinates, and field magnitudes.  

Detailed documentation on the 2008-2009 creation of this data
set, and the format of the records, is found at
https://spdf.gsfc.nasa.gov/pub/data/imp/imp8/mag/320ms_ascii/doc/
imp8_mag_320ms_proc.txt.

Also in the subdirectory

are files describing the programming involved in the reprocessing 
(programs.txt) and listing intervals of deletions of 320ms data
for various reasons:

a. series of concatenated "square waves" (concat_sqwvs.txt)
b. inconsistencies with and inferiority to long-accessible
     15.36s IMP8/MAG data (disagree.txt)
c. intervals where both new and old 15.36s data were judged
     bad (bad_old_new.txt)
d. residual spikes and other anomalies (residual.txt)

The latter four files are secondary to, and pointed to by,
the primary documentation file imp8_mag_320ms_proc.txt. 

This data set has an FTPBrowser interface (graphical display, etc.) 
at http://omniweb.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/ftpbrowser/imp_mag_320ms_cln.html.
It is also available from CDAWeb and via ftp in CDF format
