aareame_v1.txt file at ftp/spacecraft_data/explorer/explorer35/plasma_probe/3-min_interplanetary_plasma_param/old/aareame_v1.txt ------------------------------------------------------------ This directory provides access to 1967 and 1968 files of 3-min plasma parameter data in ASCII format, from the MIT Faraday Cup flown on Explorer 35. This ASCII data set was created by GSFC's Space Physics Data Facility in 2010 from an EBCDIC-formatted version. Thie data set is referred to as Version 1 in companion readme files. The format of the ASCII data set is: Word number Format Description 1 I2 Year (67,68) 2 F9.5 Decimal day of year (Jan. 1 at 12UT is 0.5) 3 A3 Month (JAN . DEC) 4 I3 Day of month (1 . 31) 5 I2 Hour of day (0 . 23) 6 I2 Minute of hour (0 . 59) 7 I6 Spacecraft counter value 8 F5.1 Ion density (number/cc) 9 I3 Aberrated flow speed (km/s) 10 F6.1 Aberrated flow longitude (deg) (see note) 11 F6.1 Aberrated flow latitude (deg) (see note) 12 I3 Thermal speed (km/s) 13-14 2F6.1 Flow angles, spacecraft coords, not normally used 15 F6.1 True longitude of flow (see note) 16 F6.1 True latitude of flow (see note) 17 I6 True flow speed 18 F6.1 Solar ecliptic longitude of s/c spin axis 19 F6.1 Solar ecliptic latitude of s/c spin axis Note: Flow angles give the GSE directions from which the flow comes. "Aberrated" directions are as observed. "True" directions are with the 30 km/s motion of the Earth (and its orbiting spacecraft) about the sun removed. Note: As of this writing (March, 2010), Explorer 35 ephemeris data are neither contained in this plasma data set nor are they otherwise online at NSSDC or, to our knowledge, elsewhere. However NSSDC has such data still offline; they will be made network-accessible in due course. ---------------------------------------------------------------------
