This magnetic field data set is on three experimenter-supplied, 7-track, 556-bpi, BCD magnetic tapes, written on an IBM 1620 system. Each 72-character logical record includes six magnetic field items and four time information items. The six magnetic field values, derived from the orthogonal component measurements, are the field magnitude and its standard deviation, the polar angle of the field vector (measured relative to the satellite spin axis) and its standard deviation, and the azimuthal angle of the field vector (measured relative to the satellite meridian plane passing through the sun) and its standard deviation. Each of the field values is a 10-s average, and these are presented every 5 min. The time information items are the day number, h, min, and ms of the midpoint of the 10-s average. These data, which are time ordered, contain no ephemeris information and cover approximately 80% of the period from August 16, 1961, to December 5, 1961. Many of the data gaps are due to perigee passing (magnitude of the magnetic field is greater than 1000 nT), and these occur with a period of approximately 26.6 h. Data set 61-020A-02C contains all the data of this data set, plus ephemeris data.
