Dynamics Explorer-2 (DE 2) Vector Electric Field Instrument (VEFI) Data This directory gathers data for the VEFI instrument that flew on the DE 2 spacecraft which was launched on 3 August 1981 into an elliptical orbit with an altitude range of 300 km to 1000 km and re-entered the atmosphere on 19 February 1983. /dca_500ms_ascii (NSSDC ID: 81-070B-02C) This data set contains the averaged (2 samples per second) DC electric fields in spacecraft coordinates and orbit information in ASCII format. The filenames yyyymmddThhmm_HHMM_de2_vefi_dca_500ms_DAT.asc provide the starting time (hhmm) and the ending time (HHMM) of measurements in the file. Contact potentials were adjusted for the _DAT files and files where the contact potentials were NOT adjusted are labeled as _NONADJ. A description of the data format can be found in file description_dca_500ms.txt /ac_500ms_ascii (NSSDC ID: 81-070B-02E) This data set contains the averaged AC electric field data (1 or 2 points per second) and orbit information in ASCII format. A description of the data format can be found in file description_ac_500ms.txt Merged VEFI-MAGB data set: VEFI data are also available online in the form of merged VEFI and MAG-B data sets (1/2-second and 1/16-second resolution) in directory magnetic_electric_fields_vefi_mag and the 1/2-second data also for plotting at Please acknowledge the NASA Space Physics Data Facility and the instrument's Principal Investigator for data usage.
