# Dynamics Explorer-1 (DE 1) Magnetometer Instrument A (MAGA) Data This directory gathers data for the MAGA instrument that flew on the DE 1 spacecraft. DE-1 was launched on 3 August 1981 into an elliptical orbit with an altitude range of 570 km to 23 000 km (3.63 Earth radii) and ceased operations in January 1991. /gms_62ms_vmsbin (NSSDC ID: 81-070A-01B) This high-resolution data set consists of triaxial fluxgate measurements taken every 62.5 msec (16 vectors/second). The instruments digital resolution ranged from 0.02 nT to 1.5 nT. The MAG-A data set consists the three components of the measured magnetic field and of the model magnetic field (MAGSAT) in Geomagnetic Spherical (GMS) Coordinates. The data are provided as daily files in VMS fixed- length binary format (yyyyddd_de1_maga_gms_62ms.vmsbin) from Sep 15, 1981 to Feb 18, 1991. /gms_6s_ascii (NSSDC ID: 81-070A-01C) These 6-second averages are provided in ASCII format containing the model (MAGSAT) magnetic field components in Geographic (GEO) Spherical Coordinate and the difference field in local magnetic coordinates and in Geomagnetic Spherical (GMS) coordinates. This data set was generated by T. Iyemori at the University of Kyoto, Japan.
