UVI Image Data:
The online sources of UVI image data are available to be used only to corroborate the results of investigations with other data and not for the interpretation of UVI images. For more information please contact the principal investigator for the UVI experiment, George Parks.
The objective of ISTP is primarily three fold: To measure the energy and particle flow from the Sun into the Earth's magnetosphere and atmosphere and how the flow changes in time; To improve the understanding of the processes that determine this flow; and To determine the importance of the variations of this flow to the Earth's atmosphere.
Images were taken at 5 minute intervals while the POLAR satellite was in contact with the Deep Space Network. These images, available within minutes of when they were taken often contain telemetry dropouts and pointing calculations are made using predicted orbit and attitude data.
Images taken with the LBHL filter, were sampled at 10 minute intervals throughout a 24 hour period. Telemetry dropouts were removed and pointing calculations are made using definitive orbit and attitude data.
