This directory contains the files which were used to produce the MEA survey plots. They are ZIPped and have to be unzipped. Each file of the form MEAnTXT.ZIP contains up to 100 files of the form SRVYnmm.TXT, where n goes from 0 to 10 and mm goes from 0 to 99. The value nmm is the orbit number. These .TXT files are 1-minute averages of each MEA channel. Zero order background correction and conversion to flux from count-rates, using a "flat" spectrum GEF, has also been done. The parameters, in order, are: Orbit Number, Year, Day of Year, Month, Day, U. T., Ch0 through Ch17, L, B, B0, Longitude, Latitiude, and Altitude. Ch16 is the background channel and is in CPS. The other channels are in e-/cm2-sec-ster-keV. Caution must be exercised if these files are used. The background correction which was used was appropriate only for 90 degree incidence. It is a slight over-correction for other pitch-angles. Therefore, in general, there is an over-correction in the flux data. In addition, the lowest three channels were at times saturated (folded- over) due to the fact that each channel was limited to counting rates of about 230,000 cps. The "raw" data on these disks have been corrected for this saturation effect. "Fold-over" corrected data are identified by an instrument designation of "1001" in the header file. The actual instrument number was "1". Uncorrected data files will have a "1" in their header files. THE DATA USED TO PRODUCE THE SURVEY PLOTS, i. e. these .TXT files, WERE NOT "FOLDOVER" CORRECTED! If you have any desire to use these averaged data, please contact me first. It is very important that you ascertain that the use of these data will not produce misleading or erronious results. The simplest way to do that is to call me and discuss it. A. L. Vampola (310) 375-1012
