• A skeleton table is a specially formatted ASCII text file that contains the metadata or information about the data set. The format of the file allows simultaneous viewing and editing of the metadata.
• A Skeleton CDF is a file with exactly the same contents as the skeleton table, but its format is binary .

If you have a skeleton table you can create a Skeleton CDF using the CDF toolkit routine called CDFskeleton (skeletonCDF with CDF version 2.6).

If you have a Skeleton CDF you can create a skeleton table using the CDF toolkit routine called skeletontable.
